Senior Science and Clinical Advisor, IAVI
Johan Vekemans is a paediatrician, epidemiologist, and immunologist who, currently, serves at IAVI as Senior Science and Clinical Advisor, Translational Medicine. Moreover, he is a Vaccine R&D expert with large experience in multi-institutional international collaborations. Prior to this role, Johan Vekemans held the position of Director, Malaria Vaccine Development at GSK, where he led the medical and scientific team for the vaccine development, trial design, implementation, and reporting. After ten years at GSK, he started to work for the WHO between the 2016 and 2020, until the beginning of COVID-19 pandemic when he joined AstraZeneca for the development of SARS-CoV-2 Vaccine, serving as Global Clinical Head.
