Minister of Health, Indonesia
Budi Gunadi Sadikin was appointed as the Health Minister in 2020. One of Minister Sadikin’s policies focus on the transformation of childhood immunisation. Despite the pandemic’s disruptions, he successfully reduced the number of zero-dose children, propelling Indonesia from a ranking of third to seventh among countries with high zero-dose child populations.
Under his guidance, Indonesia rolled out critical new vaccines, including the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV), human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV), and rotavirus vaccine. During the G20 Presidency of Indonesia in 2022, Minister Sadikin and Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Minister of Finance, paved the way for the launching of the Pandemic Fund, signifying a stronger global commitment to pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response.
