Director General, SANTE, European Commission

Sandra Gallina has been the Director-General Health and Food Safety (SANTE) since October 2020. Sandra Gallina joined the European Commission in 1988. Prior to becoming the Director – General for Health and Food Safety, she was the Deputy Director General for TRADE between 2018 – 2020. She was also the EU chief negotiator for the EU-MERCOSUR Free Trade Agreement. In 2014, she was Director for DG TRADE Directorate D “Sustainable Development; Economic Partnership Agreements – African, Caribbean and Pacific; Agri-food and Fisheries”. Between 2001 and 2009 she was the EU Lead Negotiator for Non-Agricultural Market Access negotiations. Before this, she worked in the Directorate General for Taxation and Customs Union (DG TAXUD).
