Ambassador Ito is a Japanese diplomat. His past assignments abroad include Counsellor at the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar, and at the Permanent Mission of Japan to the United Nations in NY, Minister at the Embassy of Japan in India and in the UK, Consul-General in Chicago, and the Ambassador to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh where he spent three years. In Tokyo, he held positions including Director at Second Southeast Asia Division, and Northeast Asia Division in the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Strategic Planning Division and Aid Policy and Management Division in the International Cooperation Bureau. Later he became a Senior Vice-President in Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Since Dec. 2022, he serves as the Ambassador for Global Health, following his appointment as the Ambassador to Bangladesh. His current appointment include various roles such as Deputy Director-General at the Office of Healthcare Policy of Cabinet Secretariat, and Ambassador for Public Diplomacy.
